Eagles start Rebel Spring Games with two wins

KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The No. 23-ranked University of Southern Indiana softball team started the Division II Rebel Spring Games with a pair of victories Sunday. The Screaming Eagles defeated Saint Cloud State University, 4-2, before notching a regional victory over Lake Superior State University, 3-0.

USI (4-6) got a solid effort out of sophomore shortstop Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana), who went 4-for-5 from the plate with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Senior catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBIs, while senior first baseman Jennifer Mullikin (Greenwood, Indiana) and sophomore outfielder Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois) combined for three RBIs.

Junior hurler Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) picked up the victory against Saint Cloud State, while fellow classmate Stephanie Schneider (Birdseye, Indiana) got the win in against Lake Superior State. Both improved their records to 2-2 on the season.

The Eagles return to action Monday when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan College and Northern State University at 10 a.m. (CST) and 2 p.m., respectively. USI's game with WVWC is a rematch from the second round of the 2006 NCAA II Great Lakes Region Tournament.

Southern Indiana 4, Saint Cloud State 2
The Eagles pounced on Saint Cloud State early, scoring a run in the first and two in the second, en route to the 4-2 victory.

Ligmanowski, who went 2-for-4 from the plate, scored the first run before driving in both runs in the second inning. Anderson also was 1-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

Harrison (2-2) scattered two runs off five hits and five walks throughout seven innings to pick up the victory. She also had six strikeouts.

Southern Indiana 3, Lake Superior State 0
Schneider (2-2) scattered five hits throughout five innings and got RBIs from McKinley, Anderson, and Mullikin as the Eagles gained a 3-0 regional victory over Lake Superior State.

McKinley went 2-for-2 from the plate with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI double, while Anderson went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, including an RBI single in the first inning. Mullikin also went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
