Eagles fall to No. 15 Lewis

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team lost both games of a GLVC doubleheader to No. 15-ranked Lewis University Saturday afternoon. USI lost the first game, 6-3, before falling, 9-1, in five innings in game two.

USI (15-13, 2-4 GLVC) used a pair of home runs in the top of the fourth inning to gain a 3-2 advantage in game one. However, the Flyers answered with their third home run of the game in the bottom of the fourth before plating two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to pull out the 6-3 victory.

Lewis (19-4, 8-0 GLVC) scored six times in the first two innings of game two as it ran away with its 18th consecutive victory.

Senior catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) and junior third baseman/pitcher Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) led the Eagles offensively. Anderson had a two-run home run in the first game and a solo shot in the second game, while Eickholt hit a solo home run in game one. Anderson's home runs move her into second all-time at USI.

Eickholt (3-4) was charged with both losses. She gave up three runs off six hits in a relief appearance in game one and gave up six runs, five earned, off nine hits in the starting role in game two.

USI concludes its four-game road trip with a GLVC doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin. First pitch is slated for noon.
