EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team capped off a doubleheader sweep of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Tuesday afternoon at the USI Softball Field by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings of game two to defeat the Pomeroys, 8-4. The Screaming Eagles blasted the visitors, 9-1 in five innings, in their home-opener in game one.

USI (13-9) opened game one by plating three runners in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. The Eagles added a run in the second, two in the third, another in the fourth, and ended the contest with a pair of runs in the fifth inning.

Senior first baseman Jennifer Mullikin (Greenwood, Indiana) was 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and a pair of RBIs to lead the Eagles in game one. Sophomore outfielder Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois) went 3-of-3 from the plate with a pair of runs scored, while junior centerfielder Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana) was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.

The Eagles also got a pair of RBIs from the bat of senior catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) as well as RBIs from sophomore shortstop Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana), junior third baseman/pitcher Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio), and freshman designated player/catcher Tara McConnell (Henderson, Kentucky).

Junior pitcher Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) picked up the victory after spreading four hits throughout four innings. Harrison (7-3) recorded five strikeouts and did not allow a walk or a run in the victory.

In game two, the Eagles scored five times in the fifth to erase a 1-0 deficit and take a commanding 5-1 lead into the final two innings. Eickholt's three-run blast in the sixth inning put the Eagles comfortably ahead, 8-1, and on the way to their third straight win.

Eickholt (2-1) picked up the win after pitching a solid game. She allowed just one run off three hits throughout the first six innings before the Pomeroys tagged her for three runs in the top of the seventh inning. She finished the game with five strikeouts and six walks.

Senior second baseman Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana) went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and two RBIs, while McKinley and McConnell each had RBIs in the fifth inning.

The Eagles return to action Saturday when they entertain the University of Missouri-St. Louis in their GLVC-opener at the USI Softball Field. They also host Quincy University Sunday. First pitch for both doubleheaders is slated for Noon.
