EVANSVILLE, Ind.—For the second time in as many weeks the University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team will square off against the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the University of Missouri-Rolla.
This time, however, the Screaming Eagles (13-8, 7-6 GLVC) travel to St. Louis to take on the Riverwomen Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and to Rolla, Missouri, to take on the Miners Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last week, the Eagles defeated the Riverwomen, 68-52, before falling to the Miners, 73-56, at the Physical Activities Center.
Both UM-St. Louis and UM-Rolla suffered setbacks to Kentucky Wesleyan College in their other contest last week. The two teams face each other Tuesday evening prior to USI's arrival.
Senior guard
Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) led the Eagles a week ago with 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Junior forward
Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) added 11.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest, while senior forward/center
Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Illinois) collected a team-best 7.0 rebounds per outing.
For the season, Thiesenhusen leads USI with 13.4 points and 2.6 assists per game, while Buldtman is averaging a team-high 5.7 rebounds per contest. Baines and senior forward
Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) are adding 12.3 and 11.5 points per game, respectively. Brandon missed the UM-Rolla game as she was attending to family matters.
Senior center Jennifer Martin had a team-high tying 12 points for UM-St. Louis (5-14, 1-11 GLVC) in its loss to the Eagles. Martin averaged a team-high 14.5 points and 3.0 blocks per game for the Riverwomen in their two games last week. She leads the team this season with 11.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per contest.
UM-Rolla (12-9, 5-8 GLVC) benefited from a team-high 20 points out of senior guard Maggie Thompson in its victory over the Eagles Saturday. Thompson averaged 12.0 points per contest to lead the Miners last week. For the season, sophomore forward Tamara McCaskill leads the Miners with 14.0 points per contest.
USI is 20-10 all-time and 11-4 since 2000 against UMSL. The Eagles are searching for their first victory against UMR as they trail 5-0 in the all-time series and 3-0 since 2000.
