Eagles split second day at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga.—The No. 23-ranked University of Southern Indiana softball team earned a 6-1 victory over the University of West Alabama before falling to Delta State University, 13-3, in five innings Saturday at the University of West Georgia Invitational. The Screaming Eagles' contest with the University of North Alabama was cancelled.

USI (1-3) returns to action Friday when it takes part in the University of Alabama-Huntsville Charger Chillout in Decatur, Alabama.

Sophomore shortstop Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) hit a three-run home run to cap off a four-run first inning as the Eagles rolled to their first victory of the year.

Sophomore outfielder Lacey Ligmanowski (Homer Glen, Illinois) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, while senior outfielder Nikki Nichols (Henderson, Kentucky) was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Junior third baseman Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) also had an RBI as the Eagles picked up the 6-1 victory over West Alabama.

Junior hurler Stephanie Schneider (Birdseye, Indiana) picked up the victory as she allowed just two walks while recording five strikeouts in four innings of work. Fellow classmate Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana) came on in relief in the fifth inning as she gave up just one run off two hits in three innings of work.

Delta State University 13, #23 Southern Indiana 3 (5 innings)
Delta State used the long ball to defeat USI, 13-3, in five innings. The Eagles gave up three home runs, including a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth and a three-run bomb in the bottom of the second.

Freshman Kambria Current (Indianapolis, Indiana) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs off seven hits in one and two-thirds innings of work. Junior Amy Harrison (Graceville, Florida) gave up eight runs, three earned, off eight hits in three innings of action.

Offensively, the Eagles saw Ligmanowski, Eickholt, and senior designated player/catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) record RBIs. Ligmanowski also had a double and a run scored in the loss.
