EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team returns to the Physical Activities Center for a brief two-game homestand when it hosts Tusculum College Sunday at 2 p.m.
USI (3-1) is coming off a disappointing 76-58 setback to Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday in its GLVC opener. The Screaming Eagles, who went into the contest with the league's best shooting percentage (.541), missed their first 11 shots of the game as they found themselves in an early whole.
As USI returns to the PAC and a non-conference slate that features Tusculum and Central State University (December 15 at 5:15 p.m.), the Eagles will look to recapture the offensive momentum that saw them average 88.7 points en route to a 3-0 record.
Leading the Eagles is senior forward
Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) and junior guard
Brittany Darden (Guthrie, Kentucky). Baines is second in the conference with a team-leading 21.8 points per game and first in the league with 2.8 blocks per outing. She also is tied for 10th in the league with a team-high 6.5 rebounds per contest.
Darden, who leads the GLVC in three-point field goal percentage (.857) and ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (.710), is 10th in the GLVC with 13.0 points per game.
Junior guard
Carly Clendenen (Anderson, Indiana) is averaging 10.5 points per game and ranks second in the GLVC in three-pointers per game (2.75), while junior forward/center
Brittany Neuman (Huntingburg, Indiana) is bringing down 6.3 rebounds per contest, including 8.5 rebounds in USI's last two outings.
Tusculum (5-2), which hosts King College Thursday evening, is averaging 77.6 points per game behind the play of junior guard Ashli Oliver, who leads the Pioneers with 15.4 points per contest.
The Pioneers, who have won two straight games leading into their contest with King College, have four players average in the double-figure scoring range. Sophomore forward Stephany Neptune is adding 11.7 points and a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game, while junior guard Shantae Shank is chipping in 10.7 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest.
Following USI's two-game homestand, USI travels to Nassau, Bahamas, to take on Tiffin University and Mount Olive College December 19-20 as part of the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout. The Eagles final non-conference contest is December 28 when they host Saginaw Valley State University at the PAC.
