Screaming Eagles overpowered by Fighting Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana could not match the offensive fire power of the University of Notre Dame, falling 90-38 in an exhibition game Thursday night in South Bend, Indiana.

The Fighting Irish took control of the game from the start, jumping out to a 16-2 lead with 13:39 left to play in the first half. Notre Dame would continue to build its lead, extending the margin to 51-13 by halftime. The Screaming Eagles were held to 21.1 percent from the field (4-19) in the opening half.

USI improved in the second half, nearly doubling its point total and only being outscored 39-25. The Eagles also doubled its field goal production by hitting eight, including four from beyond the three-point arc.

"We got better and better as the game went on," Head Coach Rick Stein said. "In the last 10 minutes, we were completely different from what we were in the first 10 minutes. I thought our intensity improved and it helped create opportunities for us late in the contest."

USI junior guard Carly Clendenen (Anderson, Indiana) led the Eagles with 11 points, eight in the second half. Clendenen was followed by senior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) with eight points.

The Eagles open the 2007-08 regular season schedule November 17 against the University of Illinois-Springfield.
