EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team puts its six-game winning streak on the line when it hosts Harris-Stowe State University Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles also travel to Detroit, Michigan, to take on Great Lakes Region foe Wayne State University Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. (CST).

USI (6-1) sits atop the GLVC standings heading into the holiday break after its first 3-0 start to conference play since the 2000-01 season. The Eagles, who are coming off road victories at Saint Joseph's College (76-70) and the University of Indianapolis (66-61), have not won seven straight games since they reeled off 10 straight victories during the 2001-02 campaign.

Senior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) leads the Eagles with 14.6 points and 3.8 assists per game, while senior forward/center Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Illinois) is chipping in 7.6 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds per contest. Buldtman has averaged 10.2 points and 8.4 rebounds in USI's last five games.

Adding to the Eagles arsenal of go-to players is junior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana). Baines, who averaged 15.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in USI's victories at Saint Joseph's and Indianapolis, is second on the team with 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per contest.

Sunday's match-up with the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State will be the first meeting between the two schools in women's basketball.

HSSU (2-9), which is coming off a 79-54 setback to Missouri Southern State University, is led by senior guard Laniya Stevens and junior guard Chanel Ross. Stevens is averaging a team-best 16.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, while Ross is chipping in 16.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest. Senior point guard Kanisha Pettis is contributing 12.0 points per outing.

Tuesday's match-up with the Warriors of Wayne State is the fourth women's basketball meeting between the two schools and the first of two meetings this season. The Eagles lead the all-time series 3-0 after an 82-66 victory at the PAC last year.

WSU (3-4, 2-1 GLIAC), which plays Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday in Owensboro, is coming off a pair of victories that included an 85-67 victory over Hillsdale College and an 88-75 victory over Mercyhurst College.

Sophomore guard Chastidy Miller leads the Warriors with 13.3 points per game, while junior guard/forward Nicole Rogers shares the team lead in rebounds (6.4 rpg) with junior center Bethany Jury. Sophomore guard Joy Nash leads the team with 4.4 assists per game.

Following the holiday break, the Eagles play Ferris State University and Wayne State in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge December 29-30 in Edwardsville, Illinois. They resume GLVC play January 4 when they host Rockhurst University.
