The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team is looking to rebound from a pair of road losses when it returns to the Physical Activities Center to take on Kentucky Wesleyan College in a 5:15 p.m. tip-off Thursday.
USI (10-4, 4-4 GLVC) is coming off a pair of losses to nationally-ranked Northern Kentucky University and the University of Indianapolis last week.
Despite the losses, the Screaming Eagles are going into Thursday's contest with a great deal of confidence. USI was within a three-point bucket of taking #19 Indianapolis to overtime and made a late push against #22 Northern Kentucky to keep the game in doubt until the final minute of regulation.
Prior to their two-game losing streak, the Eagles were victorious in five straight games. USI will be looking to recapture that momentum as its tries for its 20th straight victory over the Panthers of KWC. The Eagles have won the last 19 meetings by an average of 16.7 points per game.
As the Eagles work to start a new winning streak, they will look to junior guard
Jamie Truitt (Owensboro, Kentucky) as well as senior forwards
Shannon Wells (Merrillville, Indiana) and
Shajuan Lindsey (Midlothian, Illinois) for offensive support. Truitt leads the squad with 15.9 points per game, while Wells and Lindsey are averaging 11.9 and 11.5 points per game, respectively.
Wells led the Eagles in USI's 84-68 victory over the Panthers in Owensboro, Kentucky, earlier in the season. She scored a game-high 21 points, while Lindsey and freshman point guard
Lauren Parrish (Shepherdsville, Kentucky) chipped in 15 points apiece.
Leading KWC (2-11, 0-7 GLVC) is freshman forward Rozalind Jones and sophomore forward Holly Mills. Jones leads the Panthers with 15.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while Mills is averaging 12.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest.
KWC will be without the services of its second-leading scorer, junior forward Courtney Roach. Roach led the Panthers with 18 points against the Eagles back in December, but did not meet academic progress. Roach was averaging 14.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per outing for the Panthers.
