The University of Southern Indiana softball team got past the .500 mark for the first time since March 12 with 8-0 and 19-3 non-conference victories over Kentucky Wesleyan College Tuesday afternoon at the USI Softball Field in Evansville, Indiana. The Screaming Eagles reeled off eight hits in the first game and 17 hits in the second game as they improved to 11-10 on the season. KWC falls to 0-16 with the losses.
After failing to send a runner across for the first three innings of the first game, the Eagles put three across in the bottom of the fourth inning to start off the scoring. They tacked on five more in the bottom of the fifth inning to win via the eight-run rule.
Senior second baseman
Stacy Beedie (Bedford, Indiana) went one-for-two with a sacrifice fly and a pair of RBIs. Beedie's single in the bottom of the fifth inning clinched the victory for the Eagles.
Freshman hurler
Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) improved to 4-3 after blanking the Panthers in five innings of work. Grover gave up just two hits and walked two while striking out three batters.
After spotting the Panthers a run in the top of the first inning of the second game, USI came back to score two runs in the bottom of the first, six runs in the bottom of the second and third innings, and five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Senior leftfielder
