EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana Head Softball Coach
Sue Kunkle and Assistant Coach Annie Medico will coach a USA Athletes International squad in Australia this coming summer.
Kunkle and Medico directed a team from USA Athletes International to a perfect 8-0 record in Holland's Robur '58 Tournament last July.
In addition to Kunkle and Medico, former USI standout
Sunny Oelling and USI's senior class of 2006 also have committed to play in Australia as well.
USI's senior class includes pitchers
Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) and Lindsay McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana), first baseman/catcher
Angie Davis (Greenwood, Indiana), and shortstop
Krista Nugent (Hurricane, Utah).
This will be the third consecutive year that USI players have traveled abroad to play in a summer softball tournament.
Last year, Oelling played for Kunkle in Holland, while former USI standout
Shannon Emmons participated for a USA Athletes International squad in a tournament in Aruba. In 2004,
Brooke Biggs, Emmons, Kristin Houseworth, and Nicole Pike spent 10 days in Europe participating for USA Athletes International in the Belgium Softball Open.
USA Athletes International is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving amateur athletes and coaches the opportunity to participate in International Olympic style sporting events throughout the world, while also allowing them to broaden their educational and cultural knowledge of the world through the experience.
