USI visits Purdue Wednesday to finish road swing

Screaming Eagles at home this weekend vs. TTU

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — University of Southern Indiana Baseball completes its four-game road swing Wednesday when they visit Purdue University at Alexander Field in West Lafayette, Indiana. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. (CDT) and will be streamed on B1G+.
 
Following Wednesday's non-conference matchup, USI, which is 23-21 overall and 6-12 in the Ohio Valley Conference, returns home and to conference action by hosting Tennessee Tech University for a three-game series. The series starts Friday at 6 p.m.; continues Saturday at 2 p.m.; and concludes Sunday at noon.

USI Baseball Notes:
USI started last week with a win. The USI Screaming Eagles started last week with a run-rule victory over the University of Evansville, 14-4. Senior designated hitter/catcher Micajah Wall led USI with five RBI.

Tough losses at Morehead State. The Screaming Eagles had a rough weekend at Morehead State, losing the first two games of the series by one run (4-3 and 6-5) and falling short in a high-scoring game in the finale (17-13).

USI in the OVC. USI, currently, is ninth in the OVC standings, one game out of a berth in the OVC postseason in May. The Screaming Eagles also are two-and-a-half games out of sixth in the standings.

Weller & DiPasquale post season-bests. Junior right-handers Ryan Weller and Ean DiPasquale posted season-bests in strikeouts in their starts at Morehead State. Weller struck out seven batters in the series opener at Morehead, while DiPasquale fanned eight batters in game two.

Leaders during the road trip: During the latest road trip, USI was led by senior outfielder Hunter Miller, who batted .750. (6-8) with three RBI, three doubles, and a home run. Junior catcher/designated hitter Micajah Wall, junior second baseman Zion Stephens, and junior infielder Parker Martin are tied for the lead with three RBI during the first three games of a four-game road swing.

First 22/Last 22 games for USI. USI was 14-8 in the first 22 games of the season with a team batting average of .297 and an ERA of 5.01. The last 22 games have seen USI go 9-13 with the team batting average falling to .294 and the ERA rising to 6.34. (Further breakdown in the statistics.)

Last 10 games. Senior outfielder Hunter Miller leads USI in hitting the last 10 games, batting .615 (8-13) in six games and four starts, while senior first baseman Patrick McLellan is batting .368 (14-38) in 10 games. Senior catcher Micajah Wall has a team-high 12 RBI and two home runs in the last 10 contests.

USI in non-conference action. USI is 17-9 in non-conference action this spring. Senior first baseman Patrick McLellan leads USI in non-conference action with a .392 mark (40-102) and is second with 30 RBI, while senior shortstop Clayton Slack (34-90) is second with a .383 average and a team-best 31 RBI.  Junior right-handers Trey O'Neil, Abdriel Figueroa, and Levin East lead USI on the mound with three victories each.

USI after six weeks in the OVC. The Screaming Eagles are 6-12 after six weeks in 2026 OVC action. Senior outfielder Hunter Miller leads USI in OVC play with a .375 average, while senior first baseman Patrick McLellan is hitting .362. Senior catcher/designated hitter Micajah Wall has a team-high 14 RBI in league play. Junior right-hander Ean DiPasquale and Levin East have two wins each in league play.

Hitting at home/on the road. The USI hitters have been cool while on the road this season. The Screaming Eagles are batting .310 (205-661) in 20 home games this year, while hitting .283 (236-833) in the 24 road games.

Pitching at home vs. on the road. USI hurlers are 16-4 at home with a 4.40 ERA, while going 7-17 on the road with a 6.80 ERA.

Multi Games. Senior first baseman Patrick McLellan leads the Screaming Eagles with 18 multi-hit games this year. McLellan also leads the team with 11 multi-RBI contests.

Purdue in 2026. The Boilermakers are 28-15 overall and 15-9 in the Big Ten after losing three-straight at the University of Southern California. Purdue has lost its last four games.
 
USI vs. Purdue. The Boilermakers lead the all-time series with USI, 2-0. Purdue won both of the games in West Lafayette in 1976.
 
TTU in 2026. The TTU Golden Eagles are 15-30 overall and 4-14 OVC after losing two of three from Western Illinois. TTU, which plays at Lipscomb University on Tuesday, is 4-6 in its last 10 games.   
 
USI vs. TTU.  TTU leads the all-time series, 5-4, after winning all three games last year in Cookeville, Tennessee.
