USI Women's Soccer (2-8-5, 1-1-2 OVC) opened its brief two-match road set in the Greater St. Louis area on Thursday at Lindenwood University, narrowly falling to the Lions 1-0.

USI had 11 shots, three on goal, and multiple chances that went off the woodwork. Lindenwood had 12 shots with five on frame.

The Screaming Eagles look to bounce back after Thursday's loss snapped a three-match unbeaten streak for USI at the start of OVC play. USI had gone unbeaten through the first three matches of the OVC schedule for the third consecutive season.

Junior defender Emma Schut leads USI in scoring this season with six points on three goals. Schut scored in back-to-back matches against Southeast Missouri State University on October 4 and Western Illinois University on October 11. Senior forward Eva Boer has a team-high 26 shots and leads the team with two assists. Junior forward Josie Pochocki tops the squad with 12 shots on goal. As a team, USI leads the OVC in shots (184) and ties for second in shots on goal (77).

Between the posts, sophomore goalkeeper Merrick Schwalbach has a 1.20 GAA with 53 saves and five clean sheets, which is tied for second-most in the OVC.

SIUE (5-4-3, 3-1-0 OVC) is undefeated at home this season, posting a 3-0-3 record so far at Ralph Korte Stadium. The Cougars are coming off their first setback in OVC play, falling 2-0 on Thursday at Western Illinois University. The loss snapped SIUE's three-match winning streak.

SIUE leads the OVC in scoring with 22 goals this season. Sophomore midfielder Claire Nieroda leads the Cougars' attack and leads the OVC in scoring with 25 points, nine goals, and seven assists. Junior forwards Tori Bockstadter and MaryClaire Imig are second on the squad with 10 points on three goals and four assists.

SIUE leads the all-time series 11-3-4, but USI won last year's meeting at USI 1-0. Before last year's win, USI tied with SIUE in the previous three meetings.
