EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer junior defender
Emma Schut was named Ohio Valley Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Schut received her second career OVC weekly honor after a strong performance on both ends of the field in USI's 2-0 OVC win last Sunday against Western Illinois University. The victory was USI's first conference win of the season and pushed the team's unbeaten streak to three matches to begin the OVC slate.
On defense, Schut helped lead USI's backline to the squad's fifth shutout of the season while limiting Western Illinois to just one shot attempt. Individually, Schut won 100 percent of her one-on-one defensive duels, recorded 10 interceptions, and made six clearances.
Schut also contributed in the attacking third in Sunday's win, scoring the USI's second goal in the 66
th minute. It was the second game in a row Schut found the back of the net.
Overall, Schut has started all 14 matches this season, totaling over 1,200 minutes played. The Middleville, Michigan, native leads the team with six points on a team-best three goals.
Schut and the Screaming Eagles (2-7-5, 1-0-2 OVC) are fourth in the OVC standings heading into the coming week, which features two road conference matches at Lindenwood University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Thursday's kickoff at Lindenwood is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
