Last time out, USI tied Southeast Missouri State on the road last Sunday, 1-1. Following a scoreless first half, the Redhawks scored shortly after halftime. The Screaming Eagles answered in the 77th minute on a goal by junior defender Emma Schut, her second of the season. USI outshot SEMO 13-10 overall and 5-1 in shots on goal. Defensively, the Screaming Eagles held the Redhawks without a shot attempt in the first half.

After last Sunday's result, the Screaming Eagles have started their OVC schedule unbeaten through the first two matches for the third consecutive season. In 2024, USI went unbeaten through three conference matches, and in 2025, USI went unbeaten for the first six OVC contests.

With the game-tying goal against Southeast Missouri, Schut grabbed the team lead on the season with four points on two goals scored. USI has four different goal scorers this season, three of which are freshmen. Boer paces the squad with two assists and 23 shots taken, and she is one of three players tied with a team-high nine shots on goal. Western Illinois heads into Sunday's tilt on a five-game losing skid, with its only win of the season coming on September 6 against the University of Northern Iowa, 2-1. The Leathernecks started OVC play with a 1-0 loss against SEMO and a 2-1 setback against Eastern Illinois University last Sunday. Western Illinois' goal against Eastern Illinois was an own goal by the Panthers.

Senior forward Rita Moran leads the Leathernecks with six points on three goals scored. Moran has half of WIU's six goals this season. Freshman midfielder Nelly Beliveau tops the squad with 14 shots, with six on target. In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Mahe-Lee Caron has seen most of the time for Western Illinois, posting a 2.64 GAA with 69 saves.
