EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Tennis (0-8) jumped out to a hot start on Friday night against Eastern Kentucky University, earning the doubles point. However, USI dropped four singles decision which was ultimately the deciding factor in the loss at the Evansville Tennis Center, 4-2.
Doubles: The Screaming Eagles duo of senior
Madison Windham and sophomore
Anais Negrail found success in the doubles two slot, capturing clutch points in a 7-5 victory. The win marks the first for the duo this season in three finished attempts. The freshman duo of
Rylie Wilkison and
Libby Banet teammed up for the first time this season in the doubles three position. The duo relished the opportunity, clinching the doubles point with a thrilling victory (7-6 (7-4)).
Singles: After seizing momentum, the Colonels regained control in singles winning four of five finished matches. Sophomore
Sofia Davidoff finished with the lone Eagles singles win in the three slot (6-2, 6-3). Wilkison also held the lead before the match was declared unfinished.
NEXT UP FOR THE EAGLES:
The Eagles officially move into Ohio Valley Conference season with a clean slate. USI battles Western Illinois University next Saturday. The match is currently scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Evansville Tennis Center, but stay tuned for possible updates regarding change in venue dependant upon weather.
