WTEN wins four straight singles matches to clinch first conference win

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Women's Tennis (1-10, 1-2 OVC) put all the pieces together on Wednesday, earning its first victory of the 2025 season against Ohio Valley Conference foe Eastern Illinois University (4-14, 1-1 OVC), 5-2.

The Screaming Eagles frustrated the Panthers by taking advantage of every crucial moment. USI clinched the doubles point by a narrow margin, along with clinching singles after winning the final four matches in crunch time.

Doubles
Sophomores Antonia Ferrarini and Sofia Davidoff continued to find success in the doubles one slot, winning their third decision in the past four matches (6-2).

USI failed to win the doubles two slot as the match rested on the senior duo of Abby Myers and Madison Windham. In a riveting finish, Myers and Windham emerged victorious, stealing the point as the duo took advantage of every Panther mistake (7-5).

Singles
Despite earning the doubles point, USI faced a tough deficit after dropping the singles three and five slots. However, USI slowly chipped away as freshman Rylie Wilkison earned her first career conference singles win in the four slot (6-4, 7-5).

The singles two match was a roller coaster as Davidoff swept the first set, then lost momentum in the second set. The sophomore rallied to earn the victory in set number three (6-0, 1-6, 6-2).

Finally, sophomore Lily Meyer sealed the victory in the six slot for a three set victory (6-4, 3-6, 6-4). Meyer picked the right time to earn her first career conference singles win, clinching the first victory for the Eagles of the season. Ferrarini continued her strong day, winning her number one slot in a tiebreaker thriller to conclude the day (6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).
