EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer hosts the Ohio Valley Conference leading Lindenwood University Saturday afternoon at Strassweg Field.
Before the match, the Screaming Eagles will be celebrating junior
Jackson Mitchell, junior
Will Kirchhofer, and senior
Garrett Morris during senior day festivities.
Mitchell, a finance major, has been unable to hit the field this year due to injuries. During his junior campaign, he started in 17 of the team's 18 matches while tying for the team lead in points, goals, and assists. He was named to the OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll during his sophomore season.
Kirchhofer, a business administration major, has suited up in 11 matches for the Eagles this season, recording an assist in the team's 4-1 victory over Houston Christian University. In 2024, he started all 17 games for the team and tallied the third-most minutes played during that stretch.
Morris, a sport management major, has not appeared in a game this season due to injury. Last year, he started in four matches, playing in seven while having two shots. Morris transferred to USI before the 2024 season after spending two seasons at Casper College in Wyoming.
Last time out, USI (2-8-4, 1-2-4 OVC) fell 2-0 to Eastern Illinois University, snapping a five-game unbeaten streak that dated all the way back to October 2. The two teams battled early, but the Panthers struck in the 20th minute, putting them up 1-0. That score held until the half, where both teams were even at six shots apiece, but EIU led in shots on goal, 5-1.
The second half saw the Panthers' defense tighten up and limit the Eagles to two total shots in the second half. EIU scored a second time in the 87th minute, putting the game out of reach. For the game, sophomore
David Davila and freshman
Edin Cvorovic led the team, each recording two shots, while freshman
Oliver Church also recorded a shot on goal.
Lindenwood (12-1-2, 5-1-1 OVC) is led by graduate student Gavin Csiszar, who has scored a team-high six goals this season. The Lions' potent offense has allowed the team to score 34 goals, with 13 individual players finding the net. Lindenwood has suffocated opponents in the defensive half, allowing just six goals this season on 172 shots. The Lions are ranked third in the country with a +28 goal differential.
Between the posts, graduate student Quin Closson leads the country with a .939 save percentage in eight games played. Closson has been named OVC goalkeeper of the week three times so far this season.
Following Saturday's match, the Eagles head on a two-game road trip to close the regular season. USI first stops in San Antonio, Texas, for a second meeting against the University of the Incarnate Word on Thursday evening. Next, the team finishes the regular season in Houston, Texas, with a matchup against Houston Christian University on Sunday afternoon.
