Men's Soccer finishes regular season against Houston Christian

EVANSVILLE, Ind.- University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer finishes its regular season with a rematch against Houston Christian University Sunday afternoon in Houston, Texas.

The Screaming Eagles enter Sunday's match fighting for an Ohio Valley Conference tournament spot. USI (2-9-5, 1-3-5 OVC) currently sits in seventh place with eight points, which puts them two points behind Western Illinois University and three points behind Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Last time out, USI fought to a 2-2 draw against the University of the Incarnate Word. The Eagles struggled out of the gate, with the Cardinals taking an early 1-0 lead 19 minutes into the match. The team battled back late in the half as freshman Oliver Church scored his first collegiate goal off assists from freshman Tony Murphy and junior Will Kirchhofer.

The Eagles took a lead early in the second half. Freshman Ian Graham found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Edin Cvorovic. Incarnate Word struck back in the 66th minute, bringing the match even at 2-2.

Earlier this season, the Eagles won the first matchup over the Huskies 4-1 at Strassweg Field. USI had four different players score in the season-high offensive performance.

Houston Christian is coming off a 0-0 tie against Liberty University on Thursday evening. The stout Huskie defense is led by senior Alex Aitken, who has recorded an OVC-leading eight clean sheets this season. Aitken has been named OVC Goalkeeper of the Week four times through his senior campaign.

On offense, HCU is led by junior Ryan Okerayi. The junior has recorded seven goals, including two in the team's 3-0 victory over Eastern Illinois University earlier this season. Freshman Joby Reid sits second on the team in points with 14 off four goals and six assists.

If the Eagles earn a spot in the OVC tournament, it will be held in St. Charles, Missouri, from November 9 through November 15.
