CHARLESTON, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana Men's Tennis (2-11, 0-3 Horizon) lost a hard-fought seven-match decision to Eastern Illinois University (3-16, 3-0 Horizon) on Saturday afternoon, 5-2, in Charleston, Illinois.
Doubles
The Screaming Eagles lost the doubles point in a very close three matches. Sophomores
Mathys Bove (France) and
Axel Sabourin (France) posted a win at number one doubles (7-5), while EIU evened the match with a win at number two doubles (6-4).
The Panthers finished with the doubles point as USI junior
Guy Finkelstein (Israel) and freshman
Eytan Michaeli (Israel) lost a tie breaker in number three doubles (7-6 (7-3)).
Singles
USI stayed in the match with Bove and Sabourin getting wins at number one and three singles, respectively. Bove took number one in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-4), while Sabourin got his in straight sets (6-1, 6-2).
EIU would claim victory by taking number two, four, five, and six singles with three of the four coming in second set tiebreakers.
What's Next
The Screaming Eagles return to play on April 6 when they host Tennessee Tech University at the USI Tennis Courts at 10 a.m. for a Horizon League match.
