EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Southern Indiana Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving will travel to Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis on Saturday at 1 p.m.
USI Women
USI Women's Swim and Dive fell short in a close battle with Valparaiso University on Saturday, 136-126. However, the Screaming Eagles had multiple standout performances including the TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Swimmer of the Week, freshman
Hayden Shurtz (Ft. Wayne, Indiana). Shurtz took home two USI records in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.66) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.87).
The Eagles took first in eight events on the day. Freshman
Reagan Holmes (Henderson, Nevada) won two individual races in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.18) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:51.00). Freshman
Caiya Cooper (LaPorte, Indiana) added a 200-yard freestyle victory (1:58.73). Freshman
Ella Johnson (Owensboro, Kentucky) rounded out the individual wins in the 100-yard butterfly (59.71).
USI Men
The Screaming Eagles Men's Swimming and Diving team lost the opening meet at Valparaiso, 159-103. The men were led by freshman
Sam Smith (Trafalgar, Indiana) who earned the Men's TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Swimmer of the Week. Smith won all three individual races that he competed in including the 1000-yard freestyle (10:07.57), 200-yard butterfly (1:58.80), and 500-yard freestyle (4:58.16).
The Eagles took the first heat in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.51) that included freshman
Camden Richardson (Spring Hill, Tennessee), Freshman
Cole Baker (Springville, Tennessee), freshman
Brock Borak (Cypress, Texas), and sophomore
Caleb Davis (Spring, Texas). Baker also shinned in the 50-yard freestyle with a first-place finish (21.72).
Both Shurtz and Smith won the TicketSmarter Peak Swimmers of the Week in the first meet of their college careers.
IUPUI
IUPUI Women's Swimming and Diving team have competed in four meets this season going 1-3. The Jaguars dropped their first three meets to Xavier University (181-56), Saint Louis University (179-63), and Butler University (119-110). The squad picked up their first win against Bellarmine University (140-90).
The men's squad is undefeated going 3-0 to start the season. The Jaguars beat Xavier University (120.50-116.5), Saint Louis University (153-90), and Bellarmine University (174-62).
