CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.—University of Southern Indiana Men's and Women's Track & Field concluded the weekend Saturday at the Joey Haines Invitational.
USI's men finished in a tie for 10th with 13 points, while its women tied for 11th with five points.
Junior
Emma Brown (Evansville, Indiana) came within an eyelash of breaking a school record paced the Screaming Eagles' women with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters. Brown finished the race in two minutes, 13.59 seconds, which was just 1.35 seconds shy of an NCAA Division II provisional time and just 0.06 seconds shy of USI Hall of Famer Heather Cooksey's 18-year old school record of 2:13.53.
Sophomore
Nick Dombroski (Noblesville, Indiana) and junior
Madison King (Avon, Indiana) paced the men's squad. Dombroski was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:24.90, while King finished sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.51.
King also helped USI's 4x400-meter relay team to a seventh-place showing. The Eagles also got scoring contributions from sophomore
Will Sims (Camby, Indiana), who was eighth in the steeplechase, and junior
Kyle Crone (Maryville, Illinois), who was eighth in the long jump.
USI returns to action April 8-9 when it competes at the Jim Vargo Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky, and the Flames Invitational in Cleveland, Tennessee.
