ST. CHARLES, Mo. – University of Southern Indiana Baseball scores 10 unanswered runs to eliminate #23 Quincy University, 10-4, on day three of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Tournament Saturday at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Missouri. The Screaming Eagles, the third seed from the GLVC Blue Division, go to 24-19 overall, while the Hawks, the second seed from the Green Division, end the contest 28-13.
After spotting the Hawks a first inning run, the Eagles scored seven unanswered runs to take control of the contest. USI started the 10-run outburst by evening the score in the third with on a RBI-double by senior rightfielder
Manny Lopez.
The Eagles took command with a four-run fourth to lead 5-1. Senior second baseman
Kobe Stephens put USI in front for good with a RBI-double before USI scored three more times with bases loaded walks by Lopez, freshman first baseman
Adam Wildeman, and sophomore leftfielder
Lucas McNew.
The Eagles upped the lead to 7-1 in the fifth on a two-run double by junior shortstop
Ethan Hunter. USI sealed the victory with another three runs in the sixth, highlighted by a solo home run McNew, his first of the year, and a two-run single by Stephens, to push the margin to 10-3.
Stephens finished the game by tying a career-high with 4 hits to go along with a team-best three RBIs. Hunter, Lopez, and McNew followed with two RBIs each in the win.
On the mound, senior right-hander
Austin Gossmann posted his fourth win and second complete game of the season. Gossmann (4-5) allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out six in nine innings of work and 132 pitches.

The Eagles continue the GLVC Tournament today at 4 p.m. when they play #5 (NCBWA)/#8 (ABCA) University of Illinois Springfield. The Prairie Stars, the top seed from the Green Division, were 3-1 against USI during the regular season.
Illinois Springfield advances to the 4 p.m. game after a 11-10 win over Lewis Thursday and a 4-1 win over the University of Indianapolis Friday.
