EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana freshman
Blake Hilliard (Olney, Illinois) was named to the GLVC All-Conference men's golf team in a vote of the league coaches. Hilliard is the first USI men's golfer to receive All-Conference honors since 2001-02.
The GLVC All-Conference team consists of the top five players in the conference tournament, as well as an additional five players voted upon by the league's coaches. To qualify for All-Conference, each player must have played at least 12 rounds and participated in the conference tournament.
Hilliard completed his first year as the Screaming Eagles' top player with a 75.3 strokes per round average, 0.1 short of tying the single-season record of 75.2 spr set by Brian Merrill in 1993-94. His best round of 68 at the North Alabama Fall Classic also was one stroke away from tying the single-round record of 67 set by Ben Noel in 1990.
Hilliard's accomplishment this year helped USI to a single-season record of 300.7 spr, 4.3 strokes per round fewer than the previous record.
