Cooksey leads pack as USI women’s cross country wins UE Invitational

University of Southern Indiana women's cross country sophomore Heather Cooksey (Brownsburg, Indiana) took home the individual championship Saturday at the University of Evansville Invitational. Cooksey's 5k time of 18:01.03 sparked the women's squad to its second team championship in as many weeks and its third team title of the season.

Senior Jenny Farmer (Princeton, Indiana) finished fourth with a time of 18:19.22 and junior Casey Schneider (New Salisbury, Indiana) finished eighth with a time of 18:52.64.

In all, the USI women had four runners in the top 12 and six runners in the top 16 as the Screaming Eagles beat out six NCAA Division I institutions, including the University of Louisville, which finished 36 points behind USI.

The Eagles will compete at the GLVC Championships next Saturday, October 25, in Romeoville, Illinois. USI is looking to win a conference championship for the first time in four years.
