BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana track and field team sent a pair of runners to the Hoosier Open to begin its indoor season Saturday.
Junior
Jesse Davis (Bloomington, Indiana) finished second in the men's 800 meters. Davis completed the race in one minute, 56.45 seconds, less than one-tenth of a second off the first-place time.
Sophomore All-American
Candace Perry (Anderson, Indiana) began her quest for a national championship in 2005 by leaping 17 feet, 9.5 inches in the long jump. She tied for first in distance, but finished second with the tie-breaker.
Perry finished second in the long jump at last year's NCAA II Outdoor Track and Field Championships, recording a school-record jump of 20 feet, 1.5 inches.
The Screaming Eagles will begin their indoor season as a team January 22 at the Rose Hulman Quad in Terre Haute, Indiana.
