Stinson signs with USI baseball

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- University of Southern Indiana baseball team announced the signing of outfielder Jeff Stinson (Evansville, Indiana) to a national letter of intent for the 2004 season. Stinson is the 11th player and sixth freshman to sign with USI head coach Mike Goedde this year.

Stinson was a three-sport performer at North High School in Evansville, Indiana, lettering in baseball, basketball, and football. He was named All-Metro and All-City as a senior after hitting .431 with 28 RBIs, 21 runs scored, five doubles, five triples, two home runs, and six stolen bases.

NHS was 14-13 last season with Stinson picking up five of the victories as a pitcher.

This summer, Stinson plays for the Pate American Legion squad that is 23-8. Stinson is currently hitting .358 with 25 RBIs, 40 runs scored, nine doubles, seven triples, two home runs, and three stolen bases.

Pate began its defense of the Indiana state championship this week, defeating Mt. Vernon, 7-2, Thursday.

"USI is a good fit for Jeff," said Goedde. "He can get into a good four-year program academically and have a chance to play baseball in front of his family and friends.

"I am looking forward to seeing what Jeff can accomplish," continued Goedde. "His main position is in the outfield, but I know he has pitching experience as well. He will have productive career at USI on and off the field."
