Eagles begin 2019 post-season on the road

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team begins GLVC Tournament action Sunday when it travels to the University of Indianapolis for the first round. GLVC Tournament match time starts at 1:30 p.m. (CST) in Indianapolis.

The  four first-round  winners advance to the GLVC Championship Tournament semifinals November 15 at Woehrle Athletic Complex in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The two semifinal contests will be played at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. (CST) November  15, while the 2019 GLVC Championship Tournament final will take place November 17 at 2 p.m. (CST)

Week 10 – Eagle GLVC Tournament Notes: 
 
Santoro needs one to tie, two to break: Head Coach Mat Santoro needs one win to tie and two wins to surpass former Head Coach Tony Colavecchia for the all-time lead in wins for the USI men's soccer program. Santoro, who has a 96-80-21 overall record at the helm, has guided the Eagles to a pair of NCAA II Tournament appearances; the 2018 GLVC regular season crown, and six GLVC Tournament appearances during his tenure. Colavecchia was 97-59-11 (.614) between 1988 and 1995.

USI earns fifth seeding: The Screaming Eagles earned the fifth seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament after posting a homestand split last week. USI lost a heartbreaker, 2-1, in overtime to Maryville University, but rebounded to defeat Missouri University of Science & Technology, 6-0, on Senior Day.
 
Nevins gets hat trick vs. Missouri S&T: USI sophomore midfielder Ryan Nevins recorded a hat trick to lead the Eagles to their 6-0 victory over Missouri S&T. Nevins, who took over the team lead with six goals this season, recorded USI's first hat trick since Jeffrey McClure scored three times versus Rockhurst University on October 7, 2012.
 
Mad dash to the finish: After starting the year 0-3-2, the Eagles won eight of the last 12 matches, going 8-3-1. USI also won five of the last six matches to move from 11th to fifth in the GLVC standings.
 
Season leaders: USI is led in scoring by senior midfielder Sean Rickey with 18 points on five goals and a team-best eight assists (second in the GLVC), while senior forward Eric Ramirez and freshman forward Zach Barton follow with 14 points each on five goals and four assists.
 
Career scoring leaders: USI senior midfielder Sean Rickey and senior forward Eric Ramirez are climbing up the Eagles' all-time leader boards. Ramirez tied Chris King (1987-90) for fifth all-time with 29 goals and is ninth all-time with 69 points. Rickey is sixth all-time in assists (20) and all-time in points (76), while ranking ninth in goals scored (27).
 
Between the posts: Junior goalkeeper Justin Faas has a 0.87 goals against average this fall. He has an 8-2-3 record overall and five shutouts. Faas is eighth in the GLVC with a 0.87 goals against average and is sixth in saves with 54.
 
The Greyhounds in 2019: The Greyhounds of UIndy, who start GLVC Tournament play as the fourth seed, are 12-4-1 overall and 10-4-1 in the GLVC. The Greyhounds have won eight of the last nine matches to finish the regular season.  
 
USI versus Greyhounds: USI leads the all-time series with UIndy, 22-14-0, despite falling during the regular season, 2-1, in September. The Eagles are due versus the Greyhounds after dropping the last five matches and eight of the last nine.  

Overall GLVC Championships by the Eagles: USI has 11 GLVC men's soccer titles since the conference was created in 1979, the most by any program in the league. The Eagles won the conference tournament championships in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1990, and 1991; and the regular season title in 2018.

USI all-time in the GLVC Tournament: The Eagles have a 32-9-2 all-time record in the GLVC Tournament.
 
USI vs. the GLVC Tournament Field: USI was 2-4-1 against the GLVC Tournament field in 2019, but 79-52-7 all-time against the field.
