NASVHILLE, Tenn. – University of Southern Indiana men's track & field athletes broke one school record as well as posted four top five all-time marks for USI at the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener on Saturday.
Sophomore
Nicholas Owens (Merrillville, Indiana) got things started for the Screaming Eagles in the 300m where he broke the school record in 36.58 seconds, placing sixth overall.
Several other Eagles posted top five all-time marks in school history. Freshman
Tyler Garrett (Martinsville, Indiana) and junior
Darius Payne (Louisville, Kentucky) finished fifth and sixth overall for the Eagles posting times of 1:23.68 and 1:23.91, respectively.
Freshman
Gavin Jacobs (Plainfield, Indiana) also placed in the top five all-time USI finishers with a run of 23.52 seconds in the 200m.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Garrett, Owens, Payne, and junior
DeMontrae Lapsley (Indianapolis, Indiana) then compiled a time of 3:29.31 to round out top five all-time USI marks on the day.
USI will take a break before returning at the Jim Green Invitational on January 11-12 in Lexington, Kentucky.
