Volleyball drops GLVC match at rival Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Southern Indiana Volleyball (8-10, 2-8 GLVC) fell on the road in straight sets to Bellarmine University (10-8, 4-6 GLVC) on Tuesday night.

Senior Erika Peoples (Bloomington, Illinois) and sophomore Casey Cepicky (St. Louis, Missouri) each posted a double-double for USI, while four different Screaming Eagles tallied five or more kills.

Bellarmine 25, USI 18
 
  • The Knights put together an 8-1 stretch in the set after USI jumped out to a 9-7 lead...both teams went tit-for-tat to the final
  • Juniors Amanda Jung (Belleville, Illinois) and Lindsey Stose (Elkhart, Indiana) each posted three kills
  • Cepicky and senior Haley Limper (Springfield, Illinois) each led the Eagles with five digs...Limper added the first of three USI service aces in the match and both added an assist
  • Peoples and junior Lizzy Gardner each posted three digs while adding four assists and two kills respectively
  • Junior Shawntel James (Elkhart, Indiana) blocked two Bellarmine attacks

Bellarmine 25, USI 21
 
  • Four lead changes occurred between scores of 10-9 and 20-18, both leads in favor of the Knights...USI had opened the frame with a 9-5 lead
  • Peoples took control for the Eagles in the second by posting an ace and leading in assists and digs
  • Junior Elexis Coleman (Joliet, Illinois) tallied three kills in the frame, followed by Jung and sophomore Alyssa Yochum (Columbia, Illinois) with two each
  • Limper continued her five-dig effort from the first with five more for USI in the second set, the first of the Eagles to reach double-digits in any category
  • Freshman Sidney Hegg (Menasha, Wisconsin) matched James with two blocks in the second
  • Cepicky rallied from the one-assist first frame with four in the second to tie Peoples

Bellarmine 25, USI 16
 
  • The Knights jumped out to the early lead unlike the first two sets before USI knotted the frame up at 7-7...Bellarmine found their way to an 18-11 lead before coasting to the finish
  • Hegg led the way at the net in the third, posting four kills and two more blocks...Yochum added the only solo block of the match in the third
  • Peoples and Cepicky each sured-up their double-doubles late in the third...Cepicky added the third and final ace of the match

  • Casey Cepicky narrowly picked up her sixth double-double of 2018 after posting nine in her freshman campaign, while Erika Peoples posted her second...Both players' last came in the four-set win over Quincy University on September 22
  • USI out-blocked the Kinghts 7-2, but the host out-attacked the Eagles .258-.069
  • USI has had four different attackers lead a match in kills over the last five matches...Amanda Jung led the Eagles on Tuesday night and on September 22
