EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Despite getting double-doubles from three different players, University of Southern Indiana Volleyball lost a hard-fought Great Lakes Valley Conference match to No. 15 Lewis University in four sets (25-17, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20) Friday night at the Physical Activities Center.
Set 1
Lewis (14-4, 7-2 GLVC) used a 13-4 run to start the opening frame and racked up 19 kills, while limiting the Eagles to just seven successful attacks, as it claimed the one-set advantage. USI made a late run in the frame, cutting a 10-point deficit to five, but the Flyers scored the final three points to secure the win.
Set 2
USI (8-11, 2-9 GLVC) was held to a .049 attacking percentage as the Flyers earned the second-set victory. The Eagles led 10-9, but a 6-0 Lewis run put the Flyers in front for good.
Set 3
The Eagles used a 10-2 run midway through the third frame to erase a three-point deficit and build 19-14 advantage. Lewis cut USI's lead to two on a pair of occasions, but USI scored the final point to earn the three-point win and cut the Flyer's match lead in half. Five different players had at least two kills for the Eagles in the third stanza.
Set 4
Despite out-hitting the Flyers for the second straight set, the Eagles could not rally from a seven-point deficit to extend the match to a fifth frame. Lewis broke a 9-9 stalemate with a 7-0 outburst, but the Eagles countered with a 6-0 run to close the gap. The Flyers used a decisive 3-0 push moments later as USI's upset chances came to a close.

Alyssa Yochum (Columbia, Illinois) paced USI with 11 kills and 17 digs, while freshman middle hitter
Taylor Litteken (Foristell, Missouri) finished with nine kills and a .364 attacking percentage.
USI also got double-doubles from sophomore setter
Casey Cepicky (St. Louis, Missouri) and senior setter
Erika Peoples (Bloomington, Illinois). Cepicky finished with 18 assists and 12 digs, while Peoples added 14 assists and 17 digs.
Senior libero
Haley Limper (Springfield, Illinois) finished with a career-high 23 digs, while junior defensive specialist
Lizzy Gardner (Lafayette, Indiana) added 14 digs. Freshman middle blocker
Sidney Hegg (Menasha, Wisconsin) led USI with five blocks.
Lewis was led by senior outside hitter Elizabeth Hyland, who finished with 19 kills and 21 digs and senior setter Abby Becker, who added 48 assists and 20 digs. The Flyers had 68 kills on 204 swings, finishing with a .206 attacking clip, while USI was limited to 40 kills on 167 swings, for a .138 hitting clip.
