Screaming Eagles primed for Western roadtrip

EVANSVILLE, Ind.---The University of Southern Indiana softball team hits the road in a set of four key conference contests with Truman State University and Quincy University on Saturday and Sunday. The Screaming Eagles challenge the Bulldogs of Truman State in Kirksville, Missouri at noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday before travelling to Quincy, Illinois to take on the Hawks at noon and 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
 
Eagles in the Rankings
Southern Indiana opens in the fifth spot in the Midwest Region in the first NCAA Division II Regional rankings released Wednesday. Ahead of the Eagles in the rankings are the University of Indianapolis ranked first, followed by fellow GLVC member UMSL, and GLIAC members Wayne State University and Grand Valley State University. Rounding out the initial rankings are Maryville in sixth, Truman State in seventh, Ferris State University sits eighth, and Hillsdale College and Trevecca Nazarene University are on the cusp in ninth and tenth, respectively.
 
Hodges named GLVC Player of the Week, again
USI junior Haley Hodges was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week for the second-straight week. Hodges hit .636 (7-11) with eight RBIs, six runs, four doubles, and two home runs, while earning four walks and stealing a base, while breaking the single-season school record for RBIs in a season and tying the school mark for home runs in a season. Hodges also amassed a .733 on base percentage, while slugging 1.545 on the weekend.
 
State of the Conference 
USI currently sits in a tie for third in the GLVC with a 17-5 conference record along with Maryville University and Truman State University. #1 ranked University of Indianapolis leads the GLVC with a 21-1 conference record, while the University of Missouri-St. Louis sits in second with a 19-3 GLVC mark.
 
Record Breakers
Junior catcher Haley Hodges broke the USI single-season record for RBIs in the Eagles' 7-6 victory over Lewis University last Saturday. Hodges has 16 home runs, 58 RBIs, and 41 runs through 42 games this season with 10 contests still left on the regular season schedule. Hodges is currently on pace to break the school single-season records for doubles, home runs, runs scored, and walks, while amassing one of the best batting averages in school history.
 
Scouting Truman State
The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a 25-11 overall record and a 17-5 GLVC record on the season…Truman State is led by freshman outfielder Christa Reisinger, who leads the Bulldogs with a .444 batting average with six doubles, four triples, and 16 RBIs… TSU leads the all-time series with USI 9-2.

Scouting Quincy
The Hawks are 13-21 overall and 8-14 in the conference in 2016…QU is led by junior infielder Lindsey Greene with a .321 batting average and 24 RBIs…USI leads the all-time series with the Hawks 32-19.
