EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The 17
th-ranked University of Southern Indiana baseball team saw their bats go as cold as the weather in losing to University of Evansville, 2-1, Friday evening at Charles Braun Stadium. USI sees its record go to 11-5 overall with Evansville going to 9-9.
The Purple Aces scored a run in the first and the third off of Screaming Eagles junior starting right-hander
Colin Nowak (Carol Springs, Illinois). Nowak (1-1) absorbed the loss, going six-plus innings and allowing two runs on five hits and five walks.
USI's line-up posted only four hits with runners reaching base in the second, third, seventh, and ninth innings. The Eagles were able to push their lone tally across in the ninth when senior centerfielder
Hamilton Carr (Evansville, Indiana) doubled to lead-off the inning and advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a wild pitch.
The Eagles, who finish their six-game road swing 4-2, return to the friendly surroundings of the USI Baseball Field Saturday at 6 p.m. when they start a two-game non-conference series with Quincy University. The USI-Quincy match-ups start a six-game homestand for the Eagles.
