Eagles drop second half shootout, 3-2

LEBANON, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team lost a second half shootout with McKendree University, 3-2, Friday night in Lebanon, Illinois. USI saw its record fall to 8-8-0 overall and 5-8-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while McKendree goes to 12-4-0, 9-4-0 GLVC.
 
After the Screaming Eagles and the Bearcats battled to a 0-0 first half draw, both teams' offenses kicked into gear during the second half with five total goals. McKendree scored first at 51:58, but USI sophomore forward Ryley Hancock (Evansville, Indiana) knotted the match up at 1-1 with a tally at 53:35. Hancock was assisted on her fifth goal of the season by junior forward Haley Rheinlander (Evansville, Indiana).
 
McKendree would take back the lead, 2-1, at 69:56 before Hancock rallied USI once again with her second goal of the match and her team-best sixth of the year at 80:02. The Bearcats would not wait long to respond and took the lead for good, 3-2, with winning tally at 81:52.
 
The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field for the final two regular season games of 2016 when they host the University of Illinois Springfield October 23 at noon for Senior Day and Bellarmine University October 26 at 5 p.m. Senior Day activities on Sunday start at 11:45 a.m. before the match with Prairie Stars. 
 
Illinois Springfield, which is 7-8-0, 4-8-0 GLVC, takes on Bellarmine at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Springfield, Illinois. USI holds a 6-0-1 advantage in the all-time series with Illinois Springfield after defeating the Prairie Stars, 4-2, last year on the road.
