BATAVIA, Ohio—The University of Southern Indiana men's golf team matched its second-best round of the season Saturday as it shot a 295 in the final round of The Jewell at Elks Run to finish in a tie for 22nd out of 27 teams.
USI began the two-day, two-round tournament with an opening-round 311 Friday and finished with a 36-hole score of 606, just five strokes off a top-15 finish.
Senior
David Janney (Indianapolis, Indiana) carded a 36-hole score of 148 to pace the Screaming Eagles. Janney shot a five-over-par 75 Friday before finishing with a three-over tally of 73 Saturday to finish in a tie for 35th in the 135-player field.
Freshman
Kyle Tanriverdi (Pewaukee, Wisconsin) tallied a 36-hole score of 153 and tied for 81st, while freshmen
Trevor Grant (Mt. Vernon, Indiana) and
Preston Van Winkle (Santa Claus, Indiana) posted 154s to finish in a tie for 90th. Grant also had a 73 in the closing round.
The University of Indianapolis captured the team title as it shot 290 in each round to finish with a 36-hole tally of 580, one stroke ahead of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, which had a tournament best 286 Saturday.
UIndy's Tucker Guisewite and Rockhurt University's Nick Arman each finished with one-under-par 139s to tie for first.
The Eagles return to action April 12-13 when they compete at the Purgatory Regional #4 in Noblesville, Indiana.
