EVANSVILLE, Ind.--- After going a perfect 4-0 last week the University of Southern Indiana softball team moved up one spot to No. 15 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Division II Top 25 Poll.
The Screaming Eagles remain one of three Great Lakes Valley Conference schools in this week's poll as the University of Indianapolis (17-3, 30-8) and University of Missouri- St. Louis (20-2, 35-3) maintained the No. 10 and No. 3 spot, respectively.
This weekend's gamesDue to inclement weather, Sunday's doubleheader with Truman State University has been moved to Friday with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m with the second game to follow at 3 p.m.
USI faces Quincy University the following day at Noon and 2 p.m., and will honor its seniors,
Brooke Harmening (Whiteland, Indiana) and
MacKenzi Dorsam (Dubois, Indiana), both of whom have been with Head Coach
Sue Kunkle for the past four seasons, at the conclusion of game two.
Eagles debut at No. 5 in Regional PollUSI debuts at No. 5 in the first installment of the
NCAA Division II Midwest Region Poll. The Eagles hold a 19-5 in-region record and trail Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference members Ashland University (20-5) and Grand Valley State University (19-6) who hold the number four and three spot, respectively. Indianapolis (25-4) is second, while GLVC leader Missouri-St. Louis (30-3) tops the poll at the No. 1 spot. The list's bottom five include Bellarmine University (23-10) at No. 6, Great Midwest Athletic Conference member Trevecca Nazarene (20-4) in seventh, No. 8 Truman (24-8), while Wayne State University (19-9) and University of Illinois Springfield (23-17) complete the list at ninth and 10th, respectively.
USI in the GLVCThe Eagles are currently tied for third in GLVC play at 16-4, 29-5 overall, second in team batting with a .327 average and third in team pitching with a 1.95 ERA.
Dorsam is fourth in the GLVC and leads Eagles hitting with .430, while sophomore
Grace Clark (Indianapolis, Indiana) is seventh in the conference hitting .407.
In the circle, the Eagles are lead Harmening who is fourth in the GLVC with a 1.419 ERA, while junior
Sarah Owens (Indianapolis, Indiana) has moved up to No. 9 with a 1.96 ERA.
Truman, Lewis notesUSI looks for revenge this weekend having gone 0-4 against Truman and Quincy last year. The Bulldogs are head to Evansville tied with USI at 16-4 in conference play, while the Hawks are 12
th in the GLVC at 7-13.
