EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team has added a pair of games to its schedule at the Dot Richardson Spring Games.
USI, which has not played since going 6-0 at the Charger Chillout February 6-8, will play Midwest Region foes Northwood University and Hillsdale College in single games Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both contests are slated to begin at 2 p.m. (CST) at the Minneola Athletic Complex in Minneola, Florida.
The Screaming Eagles, who are receiving votes in the latest NFCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, also play West Chester University and The University of Findlay Sunday at 8 a.m. (CDT) and noon, respectively, in Winter Garden, Florida. USI plays Bloomsburg University and the University of Mary Monday at noon and 4 p.m., respectively, before closing out its Florida trip Wednesday with games against Wilmington University (8 a.m.) and Shippensburg University (noon). Its last four games will be played in Clermont, Florida.
USI enters this week's games leading the Great Lakes Valley Conference in batting average, opponent batting average, and earned run average. The Eagles have a .357 team batting average and are holding opponents, which have included No. 9 University of Alabama Huntsville and No. 22 University of North Alabama, to a mere .222 batting average.
Led by senior pitcher/first baseman
Brooke Harmening (Whiteland, Indiana), the Eagles team ERA stands at 1.20. Harmening is 4-0 in the circle with a GLVC-best 0.75 ERA and a .176 opponent batting average.
At the plate, the Eagles have eight players hitting .300 or better, including junior utility player
Janna Green (Glenwood, Indiana) and junior infielder
Toni Braun (Evanston, Indiana). Green hit .526 with two doubles, a triple, and five RBIs in USI's opening weekend, while Braun hit .412 with three RBIs and five runs scored.
Following the Dot Richardson Spring Games, the Eagles open GLVC play by hosting William Jewell College March 14 at the USI Softball Field.
