Eagles rise to No. 17 in NFCA poll

EVANSVILLE, Ind.--- The University of Southern Indiana softball team moved up five spots to 17 in the sixth installment of the 2015 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Poll as announced Wednesday. This is the highest ranking for USI softball since being ranked 14th in the final NFCA rankings back in 1998.

The Screaming Eagles, who were awarded the No. 22 spot in last week's poll, finished their time at the Dot Richardson Spring Games recording sweeps last week Monday against Bloomburg University and University of Mary and last week Wednesday against Wilmington University and Shippensburg.

USI then opened its Great Lakes Valley Conference slate with a sweep over William Jewell College on Sunday for a 15-1 overall record, 2-0 in the GLVC. The following day, however, the Eagles were unable to grab wins against Rockhurst University, falling to 15-3 overall, 2-2 in conference play.

GLVC West Division member University of Missouri-St. Louis maintained its no. 4 spot, while East Division member University of Indianapolis moved up six spots from 18 to 12.

The Eagles head to Springfield and Rolla, Missouri, this weekend, taking on Drury University Saturday at Noon and 2 p.m., followed by another doubleheader round with Missouri University of Science and Technology starting at Noon.
