USI looking for Homecoming celebrations

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team returns to the Physical Activities Center for Homecoming Week when it hosts Quincy University Thursday and Truman State University Saturday. Tip off Thursday versus Quincy is 7:30 p.m., while the start time for the homecoming game against Truman State, is 3:15 p.m.
 
The Screaming Eagles are asking fans to wear red Thursday night for Heart Night at the PAC. USI is partnering with the Deaconess Heart Hospital Thursday evening to promote heart health and awareness of the fight against heart disease.

USI Men's Basketball Notes versus Quincy and Truman State:
 
USI splits road trip. The University of Southern Indiana split its road games last week, stumbling at McKendree University, 88-82, and bouncing back to win at the University of Illinois Springfield, 67-54.
 
Road trip leaders. USI had four players average in double digits last week, led by senior guard Gavin Schumann with 19.5 points per game. Senior guard TeNale Roland and junior forward George Edwards followed with 13.5 points per outing each, while senior forward Austin Davis rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10.0 points per contest.
 
Defense shined in the win over Illinois Springfield. After a rough night against McKendree, the USI defense recovered against Illinois Springfield, holding the Prairie Stars to 35 percent from the field (21-60) and outrebounded them 43-26. Senior guard Gavin Schumann made a career-high five steals, while senior forward Austin Davis was one short of a career-high with three blocks.
 
USI in the GLVC.  USI is currently in fifth in the GLVC East Division and tied for seventh overall in the race for a berth in the GLVC Tournament. The Screaming Eagles also are one game back of sixth and two games back of fifth overall. The schedule will be challenging over the next two weeks as the Eagles are slated to play the first place, third place, and fourth place teams from the GLVC West Division.
 
At home versus on the road. USI is 9-3 overall at home and 3-3 on the road this year. The Eagles are outscoring the opposition, 79.4-69.8, at the PAC, while going 3-3 on the road and trails 72.8-71.7 points per game. 
 
Stopping 1st half woes of January.  The Eagles have had first half woes over last seven games, leading only once at the intermission since the January 10 victory over Missouri University of Science & Technology. USI outscored the opposition in the first half at a pace of 40.2-34.1 in the first 12 games of the year, but have been outscored in the first half over the last seven games at an average of 34.6.-31.1.
 
Schumann is season leader in points. Senior guard Gavin Schumann leads the Eagles and is fourth in the GLVC in scoring, averaging 18.9 points per contest. Junior forward George Edwards follows Schumann with 14.7 points per outing off the bench and ranks 15th in the GLVC in scoring. 
 
Quincy in 2014-15. The Hawks of Quincy University are 11-10 overall, 5-6 in the GLVC. Quincy has won four of its last five after its four-game winning streak was stopped at Drury University last week.  For more on Quincy, visit quhawks.com.
 
USI vs. Quincy. USI leads the all-time series with Quincy, 28-9, and is 9-2 when hosting the Hawks since 2000. The Eagles won last year's meeting, 96-69, in Quincy.   
 
Truman State in 2014-15. The Bulldogs of Truman State University are on top of the GLVC West at 16-5 overall, 8-3 in the GLVC. Truman State has won five straight and seven of eight to take over the top spot in the West.  For more on Truman State, visit trumanbulldogs.com
 
USI vs. Truman State. The series is tried 1-1 after Truman State won the first meeting in GLVC play last year in Kirksville, Missouri, 71-68. USI won the very first meeting with Truman State in 1997-98, 92-85, at the PAC.
