Eagles postseason bound after 2-0 victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – With their postseason dreams on the line, University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer captured a 2-0 victory over Bellarmine University Wednesday evening in Louisville, Kentucky. The Screaming Eagles rise to 8-6-3 overall, 6-6-3 in the GLVC, while the Knights end the evening 8-7 in the conference and 10-8 overall.

The Eagles entered the day needing a victory and a handful of other contests to fall in their favor. Earlier in the afternoon, USI received favorable results and set up a situation where the Eagles needed just a triumph over the Knights.

USI and Bellarmine played through the first 45 minutes scoreless, although Bellarmine owned a 6-3 shots advantage at the halftime break.

In the second half, it was clear the Eagles were the aggressors early on. The break-through for USI occurred just shy of the 60 minute mark. Freshman Kasper Bjoro found a loose ball in the box and finished with a back heel for the goal.

USI would quickly increase their lead just two minutes later. Bjoro lined up for the corner kick and looped the ball into the box. Senior Michael Sass utilized his size and rose above the crowd to head the ball into the back of the net.

In the final 30 minutes of action, the Eagles defense continued to lock down and stifle any Bellarmine opportunities.

Goalkeeper Adam Zehme produced his fifth clean sheet in goal and his sixth victory between the posts.

USI earns the eighth and final seed in the GLVC Men's Soccer Tournament and will travel to face the top-seed and seventh-ranked Rockhurst University Hawks in Kansas City, Missouri at 1 pm on Sunday afternoon.
