KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Southern Indiana Men's Soccer saw their season come to a close in a 1-0 loss to seventh-ranked Rockhurst University in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Tournament Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri. USI ends the season 8-7-3 overall, while Rockhurst rises to 14-1-2.
The USI defense stifled a few Rockhurst chances early on in the first half, including big saves by sophomore goalkeeper
Adam Zehme. The Hawks earned the goal advantage just past the 30 minute mark, as Kaleb Jackson curled one into the back of the net.
At the half, the Screaming Eagles trailed the Hawks in shots, 7-4, but had opportunities to penetrate the stingy Rockhurst defense.
In the second half, USI had shots on goal from junior midfielder
Michael Sass and senior defender
Josh Weinzapfel that were snuffed out by the Rockhurst goalkeeper. The Eagles outshot Rockhurst, 10-5, in the second half.
The Eagles end the season with a record over .500 for the first time since the 2012 season, which was also the last time prior to this season that USI earned a berth in the GLVC Tournament.
