ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer was dropped by Maryville University, 2-1, Friday afternoon in St. Louis, Missouri. USI saw its record tumble to 4-9-2 overall and 3-9-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Maryville climbs to 6-6-3 overall, 5-5-3 GLVC.
USI and Maryville battled back and forth for the first 30 minutes when the Saints jumped out in front, 1-0. The Saints would add another goal at the 40 minute mark and went into the intermission with a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, USI cut the first half deficit in half, 2-1, when senior forward
McKinsey Durham scored in the 57
th minute. The goal was Durham's first of the season and was assisted on the play by junior defender
Gabriella Korte.
The Eagles thought they had the equalizer in the 65
th minute when sophomore defender
Sadie Schumann's shot found the back of the Saints' goal, but was waved off when the officials call USI offside. Maryville would hold off USI the rest of the way and posted the 2-1 victory.
USI reaches the halfway mark of its three-match road swing Sunday when the Eagles visit the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Tritons, who are 10-1-3 overall and 8-1-3 GLVC, start this weekend's action tonight when they host 19
th-ranked Bellarmine University.
