Eagles set to defend home turf



EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After a four-match road-swing to start the 2014 campaign, the University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team opens the home schedule and a four-game homestand Friday at 7:30 p.m. when it host the University of Missouri-St. Louis at Strassweg Field. USI concludes the first half of the homestand Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when it welcomes Maryville University to its home turf.

Week 3 Eagle Notes:
 
USI finishes longest opening road trip since 1985. The Eagles (1-2-1, 0-1-1 GLVC) completed their four-game road-swing to start the year, 1-2-1. The four road matches marked the longest road trip to start a season since 1985 when USI began with four matches away from the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field.
 
USI battled hard in GLVC's opening weekend. The Eagles fought hard, but finished the first GLVC-weekend of 2014, 0-1-1. USI pushed 22nd-ranked Quincy for 85 minutes before falling, 3-0, and battled Truman State University to a 0-0 double-overtime tie.
 
Bruder was tough in goal. Junior goalkeeper Auston Bruder (Evansville, Indiana) was tough in goal for the Eagles in the opening weekend of GLVC action. Bruder shutdown nationally-ranked Quincy for 85 of the 90 minutes last Friday and shutout Truman State for 110 minutes in the double-overtime 0-0 tie.
 
Santoro is in his sixth year. USI Head Coach Mat Santoro has a 39-45-7 overall record at USI, but is 19-16-4 in the last three seasons.
 
Eagles hope to get offense going at home. USI has scored only one goal through the first four games and did not scored in the last 400 minutes of the road trip.
 
Eagles hope to get GLVC-best 11th conference title in 2014. USI has a GLVC-best 10 conference championships in men's soccer since 1979. The Eagles also are looking for their first league title since 1991.
 
USI hopes to get on track versus UMSL. The Eagles will be shooting to get back on track and pick up their first win over the Tritons of the University of Missouri-St. Louis  (3-0-1, 2-0-0 GLVC) since 2008. USI is 0-4-1 versus UMSL in the last five matches and trails the all-time series with the Tritons, 4-19-2.
 
USI looks to continue winning ways versus Maryville. USI has won its last four matches against the Saints of Maryville University (1-1-3, 0-1-1 GLVC), including a 3-1 victory last fall in St. Louis, Missouri. The Eagles also lead the all-time series with the Saints, 5-1-0.
