ROMEOVILLE, Ill.---The University of Southern Indiana softball team scored six unanswered runs for a 9-3 win in game one against Lewis University, but could not hold on to a 3-0 lead in game two, falling 4-3 to its Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division opponent in eight innings.

USI saw lots of action in the game-one opener with senior Kelsey Jankowski's  (Cedar Lake, Indiana) single up the middle, that sent two runners home, and freshman Grace Clark's (Indianapolis, Indiana) RBI-double for the 3-0 lead.

The Flyers rallied back in the bottom of the first, however, scoring three runs of their own to tie the game up.

Leading the Eagles in game one was junior MacKenzi Dorsam (Dubois, Indiana) who went 4-for-4, earning RBIs in the second and sixth, and two in the seventh, while Jankowski finished at 3-for-4.

Down 9-3 heading into their portion of the seventh, Lewis failed to pass the Eagles, taking the game-one loss.

Junior Brooke Harmening (Whiteland, Indiana) earned the win for USI after a full seven innings of work, tallying eight strikeouts and allowing one walk.

In game two, freshman Haley Hodges (Portage, Indiana) had a leadoff homerun, with sophomore Janna Green (Glenwood, Indiana) following, with another homer, to give USI a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

With two outs and no one out, Dorsam was walked, but soon scored off senior Teri Newmaster's (Elberfeld, Indiana) at-bat, to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage.

After Lewis scored a run in the first half of the sixth, Harmening was brought in to relive starting pitcher Sarah Owens, 6-7 (Indianapolis, Indiana).

Harmening earned the loss though, falling to 11-5, as the Flyers scored two runs to knot the score at 3-3, and their final, to give them the win, in the eighth inning, 4-3.

The Eagles take on University of Wisconsin-Parkside tomorrow in doubleheader action at Lewis University's field. First pitch between USI and the Rangers is set for 2:30 p.m.
