SOUTHERN INDIANA SOFTBALL NOTES:
Â
Down six games: Mother Nature has really put a damper on USI's preseason schedule, as the Eagles were forced to cancel six home games in the last two weeks, all of which were against regional opponents from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Â
The Eagles were able to squeeze in one game last week Saturday against regional foe Saginaw Valley State University, defeating the Cardinals 10-8.
Â
In the circle: USI utilized the arms of both junior
Brooke Harmening (Whiteland, Indiana) and sophomore
Sarah Owens (Indianapolis, Indiana) in its win over SVSU last week. Harmening (2-1) started in the circle, throwing a little over three innings, before Owens (2-0) stepped in, earning the win.
Â
Weekend leaders: Junior catcher/infielder
MacKenzi Dorsam leads the Eagles with four RBI's and is currently hitting .444. The Dubois, Indiana, native also leads the squad in hits (8) and is tied with sophomore shortstop
Janna Green (Glenwood, Indiana) in runs scored with five.
Â
Missouri S&T notes: The Miners (0-3, overall), who have had their fair share of cancelled games too, return to Evansville looking for their first win of the season. S&T faced SVSU last weekend at the USI Spring Classic, falling 5-3.
Â
Eagles vs. Miners: The two last met in 2012 with USI sweeping 13-0 (5 innings) and 7-6. The Eagles lead the all-time series 10-9. Â
Â
Drury notes: The Panthers (3-11, overall) open GLVC action against Bellarmine University before Sunday's go against USI.
Â
Eagles vs. Panthers: USI leads the all-time series against the Panthers, 7-3, sweeping the last meeting, 5-2, 2-0.
