Louisville, Ky.---The University of Southern Indiana softball team fell 8-3 in game one, and 3-2 in game two, to Bellarmine University in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Thursday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Screaming Eagles drop to 11-10 overall, 3-9 in conference play, while the Knights improve to 20-6 overall, 13-1 in the GLVC.

In game one, Bellarmine got out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first, before scoring five more runs in their portion of the third.

USI saw no action until the fourth when sophomore
Kaitlyn England (Danville, Indiana) sent an RBI-single through to the right side, advancing junior hurler
Brooke Harmening (Whiteland, Indiana) home for the run.
Â
Harmening had a rocky showing at the mound and was tagged with the loss, dropping to 7-4 on the season. The Whiteland, Indiana native gave up a season high seven walks, but still managed eight strikeouts.

The Eagles tallied two more runs in the fourth off designated hitter,
Kelsey Jankowski's (Cedar Lake, Indiana), RBI-double to right center.

USI got on the board first in the nightcap, tallying an unearned run for a 1-0 lead, however Bellarmine eventually took the lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI-double to left field.

An RBI-single by freshman
Grace Clark (Indianapolis, Indiana) knotted the score at 2-2, but the Knights answered back with another run in the final inning to take the game, 3-2.

Despite the loss, sophomore
Sara Owens (Indianapolis, Indiana), who fell to 4-6, tallied a season high eight strikeouts.

The Eagles return to the USI Softball Field this weekend for more doubleheader action as they play host to University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday and McKendree University on Sunday. First pitch on both days is slated for noon.Â
