EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Senior outside hitter
Fawn Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) slammed down 17 kills as the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team defeated visiting Kentucky State University 25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 25-11 Wednesday night at the Physical Activities Center.
Ryan, who hit .406 for the match, had at least four kills in each set, including nine in the first two frames, as USI jumped out to a two-set advantage.
The Screaming Eagles (9-6) held Kentucky State (18-11) to a negative .103 attacking percentage in the opening frame as they raced away with the 14-point victory. USI had five of its 12 team blocks in the first set as it took command of the match.

Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) had four kills and hit .800 in the second set as the Eagles out-distanced the Thorobreds for the eight-point win and the two-set advantage. Ryan had five kills in the frame on nine swings as USI used an 11-2 run midway through the stanza to take a commanding nine-point lead.
Despite holding the Thorobreds to a negative .051 attacking clip in the third set, the Eagles saw a 15-10 advantage turn into a 22-20 deficit late in the set. USI tied the frame at 23-23, but a Kentucky State kill followed by a block on a Winter attack sent the match into a fourth stanza.
USI, however, shut the door on the Thorobreds in the fourth set as it hit .346. Junior right side hitter
Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana) had five of her season-high 11 kills in the final game as USI used runs of 13-3 and 7-1 to put Kentucky State away for good.
In addition to Ryan and Oberbroeckling, USI got 11 kills and four blocks from Winter as well as 38 assists from sophomore setter
Quin Shoultz (Columbus, Indiana). Sophomore middle blocker
Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, Indiana) added six blocks, while freshman libero
Jessica Lee (Mackinaw, Illinois) and freshman defensive specialist
Shannon Farrell (Munster, Indiana) added 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
USI returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference play Friday when it travels to Lebanon, Illinois, to take on McKendree University. The Bearcats (9-7, 6-3 GLVC) fell in five sets to Missouri Baptist University Wednesday night.
