Fawn Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) combined for 21 kills as University of Southern Indiana volleyball team defeated McKendree University Friday evening in Lebanon, Illinois.
The Screaming Eagles hit the .500 mark, in Great Lakes Valley Conference action, improving to 5-5, 10-6 overall, while the Bearcats drop to 9-8 overall, 6-4 in league play.
Other USI leaders included sophomore middle blocker
Amy Zwissler (Bloomington, Indiana) who came up with a match-high seven blocks. Sophomore setter
Quin Shoultz (Columbus, Indiana) added six blocks, while leading in assists and digs, with 38 and 12, respectively.
The Eagles capitalized on McKendree's handful of errors in the first set, claiming a 25-11 win, but watched their lead turn into a tie in the following frame, as the Bearcats came back swinging with a 25-21 win of their own.
USI trailed the Bearcats for much of the third set, before coming from behind to grab it, 25-23.
In the fourth and final frame, the Eagles used four multiple-point runs to help them build an 11-point advantage over the home team, eventually taking the set, 25-19 for a 3-1 win.
USI faces GLVC East Division opponent University of Illinois Springfield Saturday at 3 p.m. in Springfield, Illinois, before a non-conference match against Cedarville University Tuesday at the Physical Activities Center.
