PDFPhoto Gallery EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team was unable to withstand the attack of vising Lewis University falling in straight-sets to the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. The loss drops the Screaming Eagles to 4-5 in conference action, while the Flyers improve to 8-1.
Leading the Eagles' attack were senior outside hitters
Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, Wisconsin) and
Fawn Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) who combined for 23 kills, while juniors
Erica Oberbroeckling (Westfield, Indiana) and
Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) added eight a piece.
Sophomore setter
Quin Shoultz (Columbus, Indiana) picked up her fifth double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs, while freshman
Shannon Farrell (Munster, Indiana) and
Jessica Lee (Mackinaw, Illinois) led with 11 digs each.
Both teams battled throughout the duration of the match, but USI was never able to hold more than a three-point lead, which hurt its chances of claiming set-wins.
Offensively, the Flyers outhit USI .317 to .194, due to a defensive that came up with seven blocks.
USI concludes its six-match homestand Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference matchup against Kentucky State University. The Eagles return to GLVC action Friday, September 10 on the road at McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois.
