LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Despite racing out to large leads in the first two sets, the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team suffered a 26-24, 27-25, 24-26, 25-23 setback to host Bellarmine University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match Wednesday night in Knights Hall.
USI (16-9, 6-8 GLVC) saw a 22-14 lead in the opening frame slip away as the Knights used a 12-2 run to end the frame with a two-point victory. The Screaming Eagles led 13-3 early in the second set and 22-15 later in the stanza, but the Knights, once again, charged back, this time with a 12-3 run to end the game with another two-point win and a two-set lead in the match.
The Eagles, who held the Knights to a .146 attacking percentage, including a .068 clip in the third set, rallied from a 14-11 deficit in game three. USI trailed 23-21 later in the stanza, but won five of the next six rallies to win the set and cut Bellarmine's match lead in half.
USI and Bellarmine (12-11, 5-9 GLVC) battled back-and-forth in the fourth frame, with USI taking a 20-19 lead late, but a 4-0 Bellarmine run proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome as the Knights closed the door on USI's comeback bid.

Lauren DeShaney (Appleton, Wisconsin) and junior middle blocker
Abbey Winter (Germantown, Illinois) each finished with 12 kills.
